NRA invites bloggers to ‘bash’ at annual conference
Activists, firearms collectors, political junkies, shooters and hunters who want to cover a force backed by four million members are welcome to attend the 2nd Annual Second Amendment Blog Bash, May 14-17, in Phoenix as part of the annual NRA convention. To register, see http://www.2ablogbash.com/
To Blog or Not to Blog…
Are your e-mails long, detailed descriptions of events you attended or explanations about why you hold certain opinions? Do you send them to multiple recipients? Do you feel compelled to reply to every e-mail somebody sends you? Do you wish you could share your experiences, photos and opinions with even more people and get their feedback?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you are a perfect blogging candidate! If the writer inside you has been feeling stifled lately, you can unleash the beast in a blog.

Cabin Fever hits new WOMA member hard, baby
March 19, 2009 by Amy Shaw

I have heard the road to a cure is recognizing a problem exists. I have a problem … and I think it is pretty bad. The feeling is so intense that sometimes I think I am going to just pass out if I don’t get my fix.
I may have had this problem for a long time, but I could never admit to myself that it was a problem, nor could I admit it to anyone else. Today was the day that I came toe to toe, face to face, woma to woma with my problem. My affliction, friends, is CABIN FEVER! Yes, Cabin Fever! But, fear not, I believe there is hope for me and this evening I started treatment. Read more

Photo by Barbara Baird. Here’s the WOMA member Dian Cooper, of St. James, Mo., photographing Ms. Missouri Wheelchair Phaedra Marriott for a story in the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Women in the Outdoors’ magazine last year. Phaedra learned to shoot skeet and trap through the Missouri Department of Conservation’s program to introduce people to shooting sports. Dian and Phaedra held this photo session at Cedar Creek Rod and Gun Club in Columbia, Mo. After the photo shoot, Phaedra dusted some clays with her shotgun.
Baird earns RSO rating
The WOMA President Barbara Baird recently passed the test to become a National Rifle Association-certified Range Safety Officer. Baird is an NRA-certified Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home instructor, and teaches at the Rolla Shooting Club in Missouri, along with her husband, Jason. He is a certified Range Safety Officer, instructor and explosives expert.
It’s official … The WOMA incorporates in Missouri
The WOMA (Women’s Outdoor Media Association) filed for and received notification of Articles of Incorporation with the state of Missouri in early March 2009. The WOMA is now entitled to all rights and privileges granted corporations organized under the Missouri Nonprofit Corporation Law. The board will decide whether to apply for tax exempt status at the state and federal levels in the near future.
The WOMA Board approves bylaws
At its monthly board meeting on March 11, the WOMA Board unanimously approved a set of bylaws. Drafted under the watchful eye of legal advisor Sarah Parker Pauley, these bylaws will serve WOMA’s interests and answer many questions that members may have about standard operating procedures of this association. You can soon check the bylaws on a members’ only page, along with minutes of meetings. As always, if you have any questions about the WOMA, please do not hesitate to contact Chair Deb Ferns or Pres. Barbara Baird.

Do You Twitter?
If you don’t even know what Twitter is, don’t feel like you’ve been left out of the technology loop. There are more people who are unaware of this online communication tool than there are people who use it.
Twitter is an online social networking tool, often called a micro-blog, that depends on people virtually following other people around to find out what they’ve been doing. It’s called a micro-blog because the messages people post (called Tweets) are limited to 140 characters. I compare it to cellphone texting. I may have information I need to share, but it’s not worth taking the time to make a phone call or send an e-mail, so I dash off a quick text message on my cellphone. Twitter works the same way. People who have Twitter accounts can share information with the people who follow them by Tweeting. As an account holder, you can choose the people you want to follow so that when you’re logged in to Twitter, you will see all their Tweets. If you get tired of following someone because you don’t get any value from their messages, it’s simple to just stop following them.
Depending on how you use it, Twitter can be a valuable business communication tool, or it can be a huge waste of time. If you’re interested in finding out what all the Twitter buzz is about and whether or not it’s a business tool you might want to use, I highly recommend that you read an article CIO Magazine recently published by C.G. Lynch called “Twitter: How to Get Started Guide for Business People” that does a great job of explaining Twitter and how you can make it work for your business.
