Tracy and I competed in the Sportsman Team Challenge in Raton, NM over the weekend. We competed in two different teams, a 3-person team with World Champion Silhouette Shooter Cathy Winstead-Severin and a 2-person team with Tracy and I.
The Sportsman Team Challenge is a timed team event where teams will compete to knockdown a series of steel targets for rimfire rifle, rimfire rifle and pistol, and rimfire and centerfire pistol stages on the first day followed by 3 timed shotgun events the next day where your team has to take turns busting clays that are flying all different directions at one per second with only 2 shells allowed in your shotgun at a time.
Both our teams were in 1st place going into day two and our 3-person team had the highest combined rifle/pistol scores going into day two. Our 3-person team ended up finishing 2nd and our 2-person team finished 1st in our respective classes.
Tracy and I will compete in two events this weekend, a steel challenge in Pueblo, CO. and an IPSC match in Durango. Then we will travel up to Grand Isle, NE to compete in the 3-gun Pandemic on 5/30-6/1.We will keep you posted on the results.
Tracy and I have also been doing a lot outside of our training. We have talked to and visited schools all over the country and talked to
thousands of kids about the importance of following your dreams, setting goals and leading a healthy active lifestyle. Tomorrow we will give a speech to several hundred graduating high school senior girls and we will do our best to try and motivate them for the future.
Thanks for your support and we are excited to kick off our shooting season with a couple of podiums after a good transition from the Olympics and biathlon this winter. Take care.
